Electricity generation from three types of renewables – utility-scalesolar, wind and hydropower – topped generation output from US coalfiredfacilities in the first quarter of this year, according to a reportreleased Wednesday by the Institute for Energy Economics andFinancial Analysis.The IEEFA, using Energy Information Administration hourly data,concluded that March was the second month in a row “and only thethird month ever” in which power generation from the threerenewables had topped coal-power generation, while Q1 was the firstsuch time on a quarterly basis.
