Western power dailies trend down with tumbling gas prices

Southwestern on-peak day-ahead prices trended down with regional spot gas prices Friday. Palo Verde on-peak day-ahead sank about $2.25 day on day to the low $20s/MWh on the Intercontinental Exchange for Monday delivery, while the corresponding off-peak package tumbled $4 to near $20/MWh for Sunday-Monday delivery. Similarly, the Mead on-peak package fell $1.75 to price at $22/MWh, while the off-peak dropped $4.50 to near $19.50/MWh. The National Weather Service continued critical fire warnings for the Los Angeles area through Friday, when high temperatures were forecast 11 degrees above normal at 84 F. Temperatures were then expected to cool to the low 70s F by Monday. High temperatures in Phoenix for Monday were forecast 2 degrees below seasonal norms at 90 F. Spot gas prices trended down across the board for weekend gas flows. PG&E City-Gate fell about 9 cents to $3.110/MMBtu. Stanfield, a key pricing point for Northern California gas, fell 47 cents day on day to $1.78/MMBtu. Kern River Opal, a key pricing point for Rocky Mountains gas into the Southwest, fell 47 cents at $1.760/MMBtu.
