ERCOT panel advances rules for its growing energy storage resource fleet

With 4,452 MW of battery storage in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas’ Generation Interconnection Queue, a key ERCOT panel on Thursday advanced a rule defining energy storage resources that could be dispatched by ERCOT grid operators. ERCOT’s Protocol Revision Subcommittee endorsed Nodal Protocol Revision Request 957, “Definition of Energy Storage Resource and Related Registration and Telemetry Requirements,” which next will be considered by ERCOT’s Technical Advisory Committee before final approval by the ERCOT Board of Directors.
