US energy storage capacity expands with new projects, first liquid air energy storage system

Energy storage capacity in US power markets is expanding rapidly and several new projects will provide 150 MW of incremental capacity in Texas, New Mexico and Vermont, with the latter project featuring the first commercial application of long-duration liquid air energy storage in the US. “US energy storage capacity is rapidly expanding from 2021, with more than 10 GW expected to be deployed by the mid-2020’s,” Felix Maire, senior energy storage analyst with S&P Global Platts Analytics, said Thursday.
