CenterPoint Energy’s Houston Electric customer count has grownabout 2% over the past year to about 2,523,000, but a Texas regulatoryrate proposal could cut the utility’s operating income by about $27million, compared with current rates, CenterPoint officials said in anearnings call Thursday morning.“Since the beginning of this decade, Houston Electric has addedover 400,000 customers, an increase of more than 20%,” said ScottProchazka, CenterPoint president and CEO. “To keep pace with thisgrowth and address needs for enhanced reliability and resiliency, theutility has invested close to $8 billion on transmission and distributioninfrastructure, including approximately $1.5 billion of investment that isserving customers today but is not yet in rates.”
