At his last public meeting at the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Commissioner Robert Powelson won accolades for his independence, candor and commitment to competitive wholesale power markets, while weathering jabs over the brevity of his one-year tenure on the commission. FERC Chairman Kevin McIntyre also noted the irony that Powelson, a former state utility regulator in Pennsylvania, would often be the one “coming out swinging” in favor of competitive market principles that could be viewed as pro-federal and anti-state stances.
