NYPA to provide $28 million for New York power transmission upgrade project

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday that $28 million froma state agency has been made available to begin work on a 350 MWpower transmission upgrade project designed to improve reliability andincrease access to renewable energy."These transmission upgrades are a vital piece of New York's cleanenergy future focused on a secure, clean and reliable energyinfrastructure," Cuomo said in a statement."Climate change requires a coordinated approach toward achievingour clean energy goals and this investment will help keep our energysystem secure for years to come," Cuomo added.In an effort to relieve transmission congestion and expand accessto renewable energy, the New York Independent System Operatorconducted a competitive solicitation and selected in April LS PowerGrid New York, along with state-owned New York Power Authority, todevelop an up to 350 MW portion of NYISO’s AC TransmissionUpgrades.
