ERCOT panel OKs rule changes to enhance reliability, expedite transmission projects

A key Electric Reliability Council of Texas stakeholder committee onThursday approved rule changes designed to enhance reliability andtransparency, and to expedite transmission project development forfar West Texas, where oil-and-gas exploration is boosting loads quickly.On the reliability front, ERCOT's Technical Advisory Committeeapproved Nodal Protocol Revision Request 901, which enables ERCOTto establish a particular code for generation at the seams with othergrid operators, so that ERCOT knows the status of those units. Forexample, such "switchable" generation units may be operating andavailable to ERCOT or operating and committed to the neighboringgrid, or not operating at all.
