Kairos Power to apply in 2022 for Hermes fuel facility construction permit

Kairos Power told NRC Oct. 26 that it intends to apply by the thirdquarter of 2022 for a construction permit for a fuel fabrication facilityand has submitted the second half of the application for a constructionpermit for its Hermes test reactor.Kairos said in a letter to the agency that day that the facility willproduce fuel for its Hermes demonstration reactor.The fuel plant will be considered a Category II facility under NRCregulations because the fuel will be enriched up to 19.55% U-235, thecompany said.
