New earthquake rules for Japan nuclear plants expected in February

Commissioners of Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Authority decidedSeptember 11 that NRA will issue in February 2020 a new earthquakeregulation which concerns earthquakes with high ground motion butlow magnitude.The new rule will be applied to all Japanese power reactors,including those that have restarted since the 2011 Fukushima Iaccident, Yasushi Morishita, NRA’s director for regulations planning,said in his September 11 document. The commissioners unanimouslyapproved his proposal.
