China nuclear industry should emphasize development and safety: Cabinet paper

China's nuclear power industry should place equal emphasis ondevelopment of nuclear technologies and safety, according to aresearch paper published September 3 by the information service ofthe State Council, China’s Cabinet.China currently has 45 reactors with a combined capacity ofaround 34,000 MW, according to data from the World NuclearAssociation. The Chinese government’s “Energy Development Plan2014-2020” states that the country has a goal of having 58 GW ofnuclear capacity operating by the end of 2020, with a further 30 GWof new capacity under construction by that time.
