ExxonMobil, Chevron top high bids in western Gulf of Mexico auction

ExxonMobil and Chevron showed renewed interest in the western Gulf of Mexico last week as they led companies bidding in an annual lease sale in the area. Each company offered about $127.3 million in high bids, with ExxonMobil offering top offers on 130 parcels and Chevron doing so on 20 tracts. The two companies represented more than half of the total $487 million in high bids received by the Minerals Management Service for 319 blocks in the area off the Texas coast at Lease Sale 207 in New Orleans.
