A proposed oil and natural gas lease sale in the western Gulf nof Mexico passed a key hurdle on Wednesday with the release nof a federal environmental study concluding that the area did nnot sustain any significant damage from last year’s BP Macondo nblowout and oil spill.nThe draft supplemental environmental impact statement for nLease Sale 218 in the Western Planning Area found that a new nanalysis of the likely effects of a sale on the environment, taking ninto account new data from Macondo, does not require the revi-nsion of previous studies of the area.
