Cold weather and soaring natural gas prices caused day-ahead bilateral power indexes to more than double this February, compared with February 2020. April 2021 power forwards also followed natural gas prices higher both in comparison with this January and the comparable package in February 2020. Day-ahead indexes averaged in the high $40s/MWh to mid $50s/MWh this February across five geographically dispersed pricing points, with the Into TVA index average highest, around $55/MWh, and Into Southern the lowest around $48.25/MWh, according to S&P Global Platts price database.
