West gas jumps as above-normal temperatures blanket region

Kern River Delivered, an important benchmark for gas flowing southwest, jumped $1.98 to $6.09/MMBtu, the highest level in more than a year. 3. SoCal city-gate also saw a steep day-on-day increase, adding $2.23 to change hands at $6.68/MMBtu, a high not seen since December 2019. Similarly, PG&E city-gate gained 35 cents on the day to trade at $3.31/MMBtu. 4. The lift in prices came as excessive heat warnings and heat advisories were in effect across much of the US Pacific Northwest and Southwest from the National Weather Service through Aug. 18.
