Ontario Power completes Darlington nuclear unit refurbishment, delays next phase

Ontario Power Generation Inc. on June 4 announced it completed the refurbishment of unit 2 at its Darlington nuclear plant. Ontario Power said the unit is plugged into the grid and running at full capacity. Each of the four units at Darlington has a nameplate capacity of 934 MW, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence data. The C$12.8 billion refurbishment project that the provincial government-owned power generator undertook in 2016 will extend the life of the complex by 30 years. Unit 2 was taken offline in 2017 to defuel, disassemble and reconstruct the reactor.
