CAISO's Western Energy Imbalance Market tops $861M in savings, eyes major expansion

The California ISO on Jan. 30 announced that its Western EnergyImbalance Market resulted in benefits of nearly $300 million in 2019.Participants in the regional collaboration in real-time power tradinghave saved more than $861 million since the market was launched fiveyears ago, the grid operator reported. The EIM has nine participants,and membership is expected to more than double by the end of 2022,with two more entities set to join the EIM in 2020 and nine additionalexpected in the following two years.
