Northeast natural gas prices mixed amid increased demand for next-day flows

Northeast cash prices were mixed in trading Tuesday, as demand was predicted to jump more than 2 Bcf on New Year's Day. Algonquin city-gates increased 2.5 cents to settle at $2.345/MMBtu for next-day flows. Transco Zone 6 (NY) fell 9 cents to settle at $2.025/MMBtu and TETCO M3 was close behind, falling 8.5 cents to settle at $1.915/MMBtu. In the Appalachia region, Dominion South fell 5 cents to settle at $1.69/MMBtu, while Columbia Gas rose 3 cents to settle at $1.81/MMBtu for next-day flows. Total Northeast demand was up more than 2 Bcf to 24 Bcf Tuesday and was predicted by S&P Global Platts Analytics to have an additional increase of 2 Bcf to 26 Bcf/d for next-day flows. The bulk of this demand increase can be seen from res-com demand, jumping 2 Bcf, which could be due to temperatures falling 4 degrees on New Year's Day, according to Platts Analytics data.
