SPP renewable output soars in Q4, California ISO production dips

Southwest Power Pool's total renewable generation output jumpednearly 30% year on year to climb into the top generation stack spot forthe fourth quarter of 2019 after setting multiple records, surpassingthe California Independent System Operator total renewable output by57% as the west was hit with low hydro-electric output.A new wind peak generation record of 17,595 MW was reachedOctober 17, a wind penetration record of 68.78% set October 18 andtotal renewables penetration set a record of 76.94% October 18,according to SPP data. All that helped SPP renewables account for40% of total market share, up nearly 12 percentage points from thethird quarter of 2019, according to grid operator data.
