Upper Midwest and Midcontinent natural gas prices were mixed on Monday as both regions experienced freezing temperatures to start the week. The cash price for Chicago-area location Natural Gas Pipeline Nicor fell 3 cents the day to reach $2.665/MMBtu. Similarly, the cash price for Michcon city-gate fell 12.5 cents on the day to $2.545/MMBtu. Chicago temperatures reached a low of 10 degrees Fahrenheit on Monday, according to the US National Weather Service. Temperatures are expected to tick higher through the week but stay below 35 degrees. Upper Midwest demand reached 21.57 Bcf on Monday, according to S&P Global Platts Analytics. This is the second highest level demand has reached since it was 22.2 Bcf on March 6. Demand peaked at 21.64 Bcf on Thursday of last week but fell during the weekend before jumping back over the 20 Bcf/d level on Monday.
