Amid rising fire risk, California braces for massive, precautionary power cuts

On the two-year anniversary of one of the worst wildfireevents in California's history, linked largely to transmission lines ownedby Pacific Gas and Electric Co., residents across 38 of the state's 58counties were told to brace for potential preemptive power cuts thatcould last for days amid dry and windy weather conditions.The PG&E Corp. utility subsidiary on October 7 warned that morethan 600,000 customer accounts could be affected in 30 northern andcentral California counties.
