Total US renewables generation down 4.3% year on year

The California Independent System Operator maintained its position as the grid with the most renewables across eight US power regions during for the first half of 2019, even as overall renewables across the country slipped 4.3% year on year, despite multiple regions setting records. Cal-ISO renewable generation averaged of 250,248 MWh per day, down 3% year on year, according to ISO data. The majority came from hydro, which dropped 17.7% year on year to average 89,437 MWh/d. In contrast, solar output increased 5.4% to average 77,384 MWh/d, the largest in the country, setting a record of 11,473 MW July 2. Wind output added 10.8% to average 48,328 MWh/d and set a record of 5,309 MW May 8. The ISO set a renewable penetration record of 78% April 20. Cal-ISO currently has more than 425 MW of solar and 225 MW of wind under construction.
