SoCal Gas summer forwards price near 5-month low on rising inventory

Balance-of-summer gas prices at the SoCal Gas city-gate are now at their lowest in nearly five months as the utility’s gas storage levels continue to build, rising to multi-year highs this week. On Thursday, the July calendar-month contract was assessed at just $4.44/MMBtu with prices for August falling to $5.08/MMBtu; both contracts are down sharply from the mid-$6/MMBtu area in May. Friday’s forwards price assessments from S&P Global Platts were to be published around 6:30 pm EDT and were not yet available at the time of writing.
