Sur de Texas-Tuxpan undersea gas pipe to be operating by end of June: CFEnergía

TransCanada’s 2.6 Bcf/d Sur de Texas-Tuxpan (STT) pipeline will begin operating by the end of June, according to the managing director of CFEnergía. “The problems [facing the project] are of a technical nature. There are some welding issues near the coast and the review of the pipeline was delayed by 15 days by local fishermen,” Miguel Santiago Reyes Hernández said in a statement. CFEnergía is the fuel marketing arm of state-owned power utility Federal Electricity Commission, known as CFE. The statement was read by Luis Bravo, CFE’s communications director, at a press conference on Thursday. In a recent report, Mexico's energy ministry said STT was 95% complete. According to local media reports in Veracruz state, fishermen in the community of Tamiahua have blocked access to the project since March 6, protesting against the STT pipeline and TransCanada due to alleged environmental damages. During the conference, Manuel Bartlett, CFE’s director general, said the STT pipeline is not facing delays due to social opposition or public consultation processes. TransCanada was not available for comment immediately Thursday.
