Brazil’s Proinfa renewables scheme stalls

Officials in Brazil have unofficially indicated that therenmight not be a second phase of the Proinfa renewablesnprogram, which has all but stalled because of a lack ofnfinancing from developers, equipment shortages andnlicensing problems. Proinfa was conceived in 2002,nlaunched in mid-2004, and was supposed to bencompleted by end-2008, adding about 3.3 GW ofnrenewable power generation from biomass, wind andnsmall hydropower to Brazil’s electricity portfolio.
