Rio Tinto declared force majeure in February onndeliveries from its Hail Creek coking coal mine innQueensland. The declaration followed similar announcementsnby Xstrata for its Newlands and Collinsvillenmines, which produce thermal coal. A Rio Tintonspokesman said heavy rains in central Queenslandnsince February 9 had led to the declaration on Februaryn14. “Access to the mine was cut on several occasions.nWe were railing from stockpiles since rains began onnFebruary 9 until February 13, but those have largelyndepleted,” he said. The declaration covers vessels atnand about to arrive at Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal.
