Brazil: oil and development

摘要

Brazil's proposed new oil laws will, unsurprisingly, increase the state's revenues from its oil resources. However, they also reflect the government's thinking on developmental economics and the role Petrobras plays in the national economy. The aim is to deepen Brazil's industrialization. The question is whether the markets will be willing to provide the necessary funding under conditions of increased state control.
