EU carbon prices rally as bullish sentiment returns

EU emissions allowance prices under the EU Emissions Trading Scheme rallied sharply in April, following the release of partial annual verified CO2 emissions figures by the European Commission on April 1, as well as a raft of other bullish factors. EUA prices for December 2010 delivery in the over-the-counter market rallied as high as €14.95 ($19.90) per metric ton of CO2 equivalent at the close April 23, up from €12.84/mt March 31, a gain of 16.4% in 15 trading days. Prices broke through €15.00 April 27, a level not seen since September 8, 2009.
