'Research' findings that provide PR value for the industry that sponsors them should always be treated with caution and a recent report by energy consultancy Poyry on behalf of the European Wind Energy Association is no exception. It finds that increasing a country's wind power generation can help to cut wholesale electricity prices by between €3 and €23/MWh ($4-$30.7/MWh).rnThe study compared results from various case-studies in Germany, Denmark and Belgium. These all "essentially draw similar conclusions" that "an increased penetration of wind power reduces wholesale spot prices," EWEA said. Christian Kjaer, CEO of EWEA, added: "It has already been well-established that wind reduces CO2 emissions ... but now we have stronger evidence than ever before that wind power also reduces electricity prices for consumers."
