Twelve years on, a rig is revisiting waters off the Falkland Islands, carrying with it dreams of a major new oil and gas province. It is without doubt a high-risk endeavor, both geologically and politically. The region is claimed by Argentina and it has previously seen just six wells drilled. None found commercial oil. Nevertheless, geologists believe the region contains a promising petroleum system.
