Solar in the energy mix

FITs have been extremely successful in encouraging the deployment of solar PV. However, solar PV is an uncomfortable fit with the existing electricity system, suggesting that there are limits to the speed with which solar PV can be incorporated. Electricity systems are historically designed to take electricity from large central sources of generation and gradually shift voltage down in steps until it reaches the consumer.
