摘要

Two months after the start of the Libyan revolution against the Quixotic and oppressive rule of Moammar Qadhafi, young Libyans are driving around the streets of the rebel bastion Benghazi from 4 pm to midnight or stepping out from time to time to visit the battlefront to the west. With little distraction for youth in this oil-rich North African state, the streets of Libya's main cities have always been the preferred hangout for young Libyans and their cars. Gasoline is cheap, if in short supply, and there is no public transportation system. There are no movie theaters and no bars in a country of 6.4 million people where the average age is 25, per capita income a respectable $12,000 and the literacy rate 88%.
