After a late start, Brazil has rapidly become one of the fastest-growing markets in the world for wind energy. The country's partially-privatized electricity system has been supplemented in the last three years by a series of government auctions in which wind energy projects competed and won against conventional thermal plant on price. They produced some of the lowest bids for wind energy ever on an international basis and were competitive without subsidy against other sources of energy.
