North American LNG plans move ahead

Freeport LNG said November 25 that it had closed on about $11 billion of debt and equity financing commitments it needs to build the first two trains at its natural gas liquefaction and LNG loading facility on Quintana Island near Freeport, Texas. Securing the financing was the final step needed before construction of the project could get underway, the company said in a statement. Freeport LNG said it "has completed all milestones" and issued a notice to construction contractors CB&I and Zachry Industrial to begin construction of the first two liquefaction trains. The company said it expects the first liquefaction train to start operations in third-quarter 2018, with the second train expected to commence operations five months later. Freeport LNG also expects to secure financing and begin construction on the third liquefaction train in the second quarter of next year, the company said.
