Advanced fracking rig US oil and gas companies are jumping on the latest advanced fracking rigs that underlie the shale industry’s shift to ‘factory drilling’. Ensign Energy Services announced in November contracts for two of its next-generation state-of-theart ADR 1500S pad drill rigs to be deployed on the Montney shale of northeast British Columbia. The ADR 1500S is an automated full-sized walking rig and Ensign expects to build 24 over the next 18 months. Each rig costs about $25 million and has sufficient power to drill long lateral sections in horizontal wells and move quickly from pad to pad, reducing drilling time. The rig can also build double or triple stands while in full operation.
