The South Sudan army has accused rebel forces of shelling towns in the oil producing states of Upper Nile and Unity in violation of the ceasefire agreement signed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, May 9. It is the second such ceasefire agreement to break down. Upper Nile now pumps almost all of South Sudan's crude after intense battles shut down most fields in Unity state. Sudan announced in May that South Sudanese rebel leader Riek Machar would visit Khartoum to discuss ending the five-month-old conflict, which Khartoum fears may reduce the oil revenue it receives in transit fees from its southern neighbor, according to state-run media.
