Mexico announces major gas and power projects

Mexico’s energy authorities have announced 24 projectsrnvalued at almost $9.84 billion in gas transportation andrnpower plants. Some of the projects have beenrnannounced previously. Others had yet to be confirmed.rnBids are to be invited by the state power company, thernFederal Electricity Commission, (CFE).rnThe most significant project is an underwater naturalrngas pipeline from southern Texas to the port of Tuxpan,rnin the Mexican Gulf state of Veracruz. Investment isrnestimated at $3.1 billion. The 800 kilometer, 42-inchrnpipeline will have a capacity of 2.6 Bcf/d to supply westcentral,rneast-central and central Mexico. The terms ofrnthe tender will be announced in July. Commercialrnoperations are to begin in June of 2018.
