China's NDRC under pressure to reinstate working day restrictions

Moves by China's National Development and Reform Commission to revive its policy of restricting domestic coal mines to operating for 276 days a year could trim China's coal production by 65 million-125 million mt in 2017, according to investment bank Citi. Sources said that the NDRC is facing intense pressure from China's largest coal miners to reinstate the 276-day policy from mid-March until August in order to cushion profit margins and shore up prices.
