Renewable company SiemensrnGamesa has started construction ofrnits first full-scale wind to heatrnproject, called “Future EnergyrnSystem” at the Trimet SE aluminumrnsmelter site in Hamburg-rnAltenwerder. It will use about 1,000rntons of rock to store heat atrntemperatures of 600°C, which will bernable to provide 30 MWh of electricrnenergy when reconverted intornelectricity by a steam turbine. Arngenerator rated at 1.5 MW willrnproduce energy for up to 24 hours.
