New wind additions stall in 2017, but still above 50 GW

New wind capacity installed globally totaled 52.6 GW in2017, down from 54.6 GW in 2016, according to datareleased in January by the Global Wind Energy Council,bringing total cumulative capacity worldwide to539.581 GW. Although wind capacity additionscontinue at historically high levels, this is the secondyear running where the pace of growth has slipped,with 2015 so far proving the high point of newadditions at a record 63 GW.
