Europe's power transmission system operators have set up a network similar in style to that proposed in 2007 by the European Commission as part of its draft third package of energy market opening laws, European TSO trade body Etso said December 19.rnThe EC proposed ENTSO-E as a way to give power TSOs a formal role in developing harmonized technical and market-related rules for the EU power sector, and to reinforce their cooperation on operating and developing the EU grid.rnThe EC's third package laws are still being debated by the European Parliament and EU governments, but both have already accepted the idea of such formal EU TSO bodies for both gas and power.rnThe following voluntary power TSO associations will transfer their activities to ENTSO-E and wind down within six months: Etso, the Union for the Coordination of Transmission of Electricity, Nordel (Nordic TSOs), UKTSOA (UK TSOs), BALTSO (Baltic TSOs) and ATSOI (TSOs in Ireland and Northern Ireland).
