Swissgrid Statutes Approved

The government has provisionally approved the statutes of the national grid company swissgrid as the transmission system operator. The approval is conditional on an acceptable solution being found by the middle of 2009 that will give the cantons and communes a majority stake in the company, as required by law. The Electricity Supply Act stipulates that the majority of the capital of swissgrid must be in the hands of the cantons and communes. Since this is not yet the case, the Federal Department of Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) has set up a working group to find a solution by the middle of 2009.
