Italy has exceeded 10,000 MW of solar PV capacity, with more than 270,000 plants in operation, market operator GSE said September 8. Apulia, with 1,685 MW spread across 17,812 plants, is top region for installed capacity, while Lombardy has the largest number of plants (38,819 for 993 MW). GSE estimates that Italy could close 2011 with 12,000 MW of PV, spread over 350,000 plants. 9Ren connected six PV systems in August for a total of 19 MW distributed in the Abruzzo, Molise and Lazio regions, it said September 6. The largest is the 11-MW Parco di Stalla PV plant. 9Ren now has 40 PV plants totaling 74 MW, of which over 60 MW (27 plants) were connected this year. Enel Green Power said on September 1 it had put into operation the new 6 MW Canaro PV plant near Rovigo. Once fully operational, the plant will produce more than 7 GWh/yr.
