Lobbying has begun to seek an exemption for power producers from a carbon tax which has been budgeted for but not yet legislated for in the Netherlands. The announcement was part of the Dutch budget published on September 15. The budget was prepared by a caretaker government as elections were held on September 12. The budget date is traditionally in September and independent of the status of the government at the time. Coalition talks are currently under way but could take some weeks or more.
