First connection for West of Duddon Sands

The first four turbines have been connected to the grid at the 389-MW West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farm and a further 38 installed, co-owner Iberdrola said January 28. The 108-turbine project is a 50/50 joint venture between DONG Energy and ScottishPower Renewables (Iberdrola). Siemens is supplying the 3.6-MW turbines. Components are being stored at an installation and preassembly facility in Belfast Harbour. Completion is due this year. Project cost is put at €1.6 billion. Cable landing point is Heysham, Lancashire.
