Energy Smart: a solar pioneer in the Baltics

Energy Smart, an Estonian renewable energy start-up, has started work on the country's first solar power project, which it hopes to use as a springboard for further such developments in the Baltics and as a means to attract investors to help fund the company's growth. Established in June 2009 by Michael Wegecsanyi, the privately owned company is developing a 100-kWp pilot project on farmland owned by one of the company's shareholders in Kurenurme in southeastern Estonia. Construction work on the project, which covers an area of less than one hectare, began in January, with the foundations for the project's 11 Deger tracker towers poured in the first week of March.
