Germany sees 2030 power demand 13% above current plans at 658 TWh

Germany’s demand for electricity in 2030 is forecast to be 13% higherthan currently projected by the government, the energy ministry saidNov. 16.A government-commissioned study based on the new 2030 climatelaw approved in June has predicted annual demand of 658 TWh, it said.A 2020 study for the ministry prompted the current 2030projection of 580 TWh as base for the 65% share of renewables targetset under the green energy law (EEG 2021).The new study by Fraunhofer, Prognos and oeko-institut assumessome 16 million EVs with electro-mobility boosting annual demand by68 TWh, of which 44 TWh is EVs alone.
