Italy implements measures to limit gas, power tariff inflation in Q4

Italy will eliminate the fixed charges it applies to quarterly natural gas and power retail tariffs in order to prevent a potential 40% hike in electricity bills and 30% hike in gas bills in the fourth quarter, the government said Sept. 23. The temporary measure, which follows similar interventions in Spain and Portugal to cap retail bills, will affect 6 million small businesses and 29 million domestic clients. Further measures will be applied to protect low-income families, the government said. It also announced reduced value added tax on natural gas from 10-22% to 5% for the period.
