European spot physical coal prices were heading north again June 24after a modest dip earlier in the week. S&P Global Platts assessed spotCIF ARA material (6,000 NAR, 15-60 day delivery) at $115.00/mt June24, up 5.4% day on day but down from June 14’s $119.00/mt high. YearaheadCIF ARA material was assessed at $85.35/mt June 24. The fuelhas been well supported by gas, with Dutch TTF month-ahead gashitting a near 13-year high June 22. Meanwhile coal supply tightnesshas eased in the Atlantic Basin. “We maintain European spot coalprices are overvalued compared to market fundamentals, so expectfurther downside on spot European coal prices as we head into July,”S&P Global Platts Analytics said June 23.
