Vattenfall plans 150-MW power-to-heat boiler at Dutch Diemen site

Vattenfall Netherlands has announced plans for a 150-MW “power to heat” e-boiler at its Diemen site near Amsterdam to run on renewable electricity, the Swedish state-owned utility said June 1. The project is permitted and is to receive support under the government’s SDE++ scheme for promotion of renewables, it said. “Vattenfall wants to supply 100% sustainable heat in the Amsterdam region by 2040,” said Ulrika Jardfelt, head of Business Area Heat at Vattenfall. In addition to e-boilers, it would work on “a number of other sustainable heat sources, such as biomass, geothermal, data center heating and aqua thermal heat,” Jardfelt said.
